Preferred Construction Supply stocks a wide range of high-quality, field-tested construction and industrial materials and supplies in its Walterboro warehouse and showroom. If something isn’t on the shelf, their team is known for finding a way to get it. Meanwhile, Southern Engineering Company provides construction-minded engineering solutions, giving Wayne Brothers the added ability to offer design-build and value-engineering services to clients—a true full-service approach to construction excellence.

Wayne Brothers has been in business for 40 years, serving the Lowcountry for 15. They first came to Colleton County a little over two and a half years ago, operating from temporary offices while building their permanent facility, which they moved into earlier this year.

When asked what drew the company to Walterboro, leadership shared that it was about more than just location—though proximity to the ports of Savannah and Charleston, access to I-95, and the region’s projected growth made it a smart business decision. Ultimately, it was the community that sealed the deal. “We have felt very welcome, connected, and at home since we first arrived,” Charlie Martin shared.

For those who’ve been building in the Lowcountry for decades, like those on the Wayne Brothers team, the joy comes from seeing the lasting impact of their work. “I’ve been building in the Lowcountry since 1983, and I take great pride in seeing all the projects I’ve been part of over the last 42 years,” Martin reflected. “That’s what I love most about my work.”

Looking ahead, Wayne Brothers is excited about continued growth and expansion—not only for their own operations but for Walterboro and Colleton County as a whole. With approximately 132 employees in the Lowcountry Region—51 of whom are Colleton County residents—the company is proud to be creating local jobs and opportunities.

Community involvement is also a cornerstone of Wayne Brothers’ presence in Colleton County.
